Editorial Reviews

From a Back Cover

"This is a abounding and entirely gratifying novel, by turns hilarious, poignant, and thought-provoking. With artistic craftsmanship and good compassion, Froman focuses her possess camera lens on characters who are only like us--only some-more so. The portraits of relations among women are unforgettable: we all have friends like Phyllis and Gloria, we all have mothers (and infrequently daughters) who can expostulate us crazy, we all have famous group both cheap and stalwart. We all cope all a time with both ghosts and shadows. But hand for all of it, we satisfied in a end. How tedious we would be otherwise! My book bar will adore this one. we can't wait."

"What could be some-more archetypal, nonetheless also concept than a Jewish mother-daughter relations during a core of Barbara Froman's

Shadows and Ghosts?

While readers will giggle during a laxity of this diligent relationship, they won't be means to assistance though feel a pain of noticing themselves in it. Froman lures readers into her lampooning story of smothering mothers, highly-strung daughters and heated kin adversary by famous cinematic images and Borscht Belt humor, though she moves them with her keenly celebrated characters and their romantic tour toward selfhood. Just as Froman blurs a bounds between account and cinematic storytelling, she explores a problems her characters face traffic with a permeable bounds between their need for romantic stretch and their equally constrained need for attachment--a onslaught that shapes their personal relationships, their veteran lives, and their art. Touching and funny, well-paced and engaging, Froman's novel will constraint your heart."

5Excellent novel

By B. Meyer

SHADOWS AND GHOSTS remarkably shifts between a benefaction moving and apart recollection, a conceivable and a ethereal, and play and humor. we mostly found myself shouting along with a characters, and also changed by their struggle. As a account takes us by such sundry settings as a farming squatters' enclave and suburban family life, a many characters are all keenly celebrated and their stories are equally compelling. As we examination Froman's work, we found myself meditative of such manifold literary anxiety points as Jonathan Franzen and Kurt Vonnegut. It all adds adult to a many gratifying read. Well value your time!

5An strange story

By EWB

This novel, leader of a First Book Contest sponsored by Fairleigh Dickinson University (and Serving House Books), delves into a "shadows" and "ghosts" of many relations (sister-to-sister, daughter-to-mother, artist-to-work, therapist-to-client) as we learn a story of Ida Mae. Don't let a folksy-sounding name dope you, Ida Mae is an clear artist with a story to tell, one that is told by several perspectives and scenes, most like a cinema to that Ida Mae alludes. Though a themes might be ages old, this is a contemporary story and it's newness creates for a good read.
