Hamilton Burger is decorated as a pretty intelligent man, that was a lovely change
By Charles Ashbacher
This story opens with a male claiming to be an Australian bishop walking into Mason's bureau and seeking for Mason's assistance in a authorised matter opposite a millionaire. However, a male stutters terribly and after he leaves conjunction Mason or Della Street can trust that he is indeed a bishop. After a male is strike on a head, a story takes on many convolutions, in my opinion it is tighten to a many formidable box that Mason has taken on. Gardner introduces many options, develops them solemnly and afterwards unexpected a "truth" comes out in a few pages.
There are many probable suspects and nearby a end, Mason says that he has come adult with an reason that is a furious one, nonetheless it is a usually one that fits a facts. There are impersonations, cruel criminal group and other obtuse characters that confuse we from a hunt for a genuine killers.
The best partial of a book is a stage where Mason is in a bureau of Hamilton Burger, his courtroom opponent. Unlike many of a other Perry Mason books, Burger is decorated as a male who respects and even likes Perry Mason and not as a left-handed dope with uncomplicated hovel vision. This in multiple with a complexity of a tract creates this one of a best Perry Mason stories.

A Fantastic Trip Into Noir
By Deborah Akers
Enter a universe of dim shadows, private dicks, and dames. Gardner's novel is hard-boiled and thrilling. Don't design most characterization from Gardner, though; his specialty is uninterrupted action. Although a tract is a bit concerned and during times formidable to follow, we unequivocally enjoyed a quick gait and clarity of place. Highly recommended!

The Case of a Stuttering Bishop
Bishop William Mallory of Sydney, Australia visits Perry Mason about a killing case. Could a remarkable romantic startle means stuttering? Perry calls Paul Drake to see if a bishop is genuine (Chapter I). They find where Mallory is staying, though there is a puzzling conflict on Mallory in his hotel room. An ambulance came for him, afterwards another ambulance came for him! They lane down a lady who visited him (Chapter II). Her story about a personal ad checks out (Chapter III). But a bishop got on a boat firm for Australia (Chapter IV). Julia Branner, before Mrs. Oscar Brownley, visits Perry and tells of her past life and what she wants (Chapter V). Perry visits Renwold C. Brownley and they plead a box (Chapter VI). An early morning phone call wakes Perry with a summary that a lady has shot and killed Renwold C. Brownley (Chapter VII)!
Perry finds that Julia Branner had left to a waterfront, and saw another lady fire Brownley. Perry tells her to not answer questions and he'll try to assistance her (Chapter VIII). Julia Branner was arrested for murder, Mallory left from his boat (Chapter IX). Della's impersonation of Janice Seaton draws out dual private investigators (Chapter X). Perry meets a granddaughter of Brownley, and finds Victor Stockton, one of a dual private investigators, with a intrigue that will trap Perry in a crime! Perry meets Philip Brownley, a grandson, who tells what he knows (this substantiates what a declare saw). When Perry interviews Julia Branner in jail he gets an upsetting surprise. Paul Drake found a yachtsman who visited Mallory (Chapter XII).
Perry visits Hamilton Burger to explain his actions. Burger gives Perry small time to clear his story. It doesn't demeanour good for Perry and his patron (Chapter XIII). The rough hearing of Julia Branner starts in Chapter XIV, this reviews a famous contribution about a shooting. Perry records a bizarre facts: if a shooter ran away, and Brownley was dead, who gathering a automobile off a wharf? Perry is in an unfit situation. If Brownley gathering off a wharf, he was not shot passed by Julia Branner (Chapter XV). A possibility acknowledgement by Della Street puts a new light on one person's activities a night of a murder. Perry plays this palm and it pays off (Chapter XVI). They find out what happened to Bishop Mallory (Chapter XVII). Perry explained what happened, and because Julia Branner refused to speak (Chapter XVIII). The subsequent section concludes this case.
In this story Perry was really tighten to jail and disbarment. He was concerned in some-more movement than in other stories. This 1936 novel reflects a opinion of the day.
